Explicación
Estimación por tres puntos es una técnica para estimar y planificar grandes proyectos. Una de sus ventajas es la habilidad de manejar probabilidades asociadas con el proyecto. Utiliza estadísticas matemáticas simples para construir una distribución de probabilidad para las fechas en que se debe cumplir un hito del proyecto, basándose en tres tipos de estimaciones: más probable, pesimista y optimista.
Para una distribución triangular, la media y la varianza se calculan de la siguiente manera:
Media: (optimista + más probable + pesimista) / 3
Varianza: [(optimista - pesimista)^2 +
(más probable - pesimista) * (mas probable - optimista)] /18
Para una distribución beta, la media y la varianza se calculan de la siguiente manera:
Media: (optimista +4*mas probable + pesimista) / 6
Varianza: [(optimista - pesimista) / 6 ] ^2
En éste ejemplo, la media y la varianza fueron calculados usando la distribución triangular:
Media = (120 + 100 + 200) /3 = 140 días
Varianza = [(100-200)^2 + (120 - 200)*(120 - 100)] / 18 = 466.66
